Hazard Symbols on Natural Products? Why We Label – And Why You Don't Have to Be Afraid
You hold our bottle of hoof care mixture in your hand, looking forward to the natural support for your horse – and then you see them: The black symbols on a red background. Exclamation marks, perhaps even the "dead fish" or "health hazard."
At first glance, it seems alarming. "Isn't this 100% natural?" you might ask. "Then why does it look like a chemistry set?"
Today, we want to shed some light on this, alleviate fears, and explain why this labeling for us is not a sign of "poison," but of honesty, quality, and respect for the power of nature.
1. The Paradox: Concentrated Nature is "Chemical"
Essential oils are the concentrated life force of a plant. To produce a single small bottle of lavender or lemon oil, hundreds of kilograms of plant material are often required.
In this high concentration, the oil consists of hundreds of chemical compounds (such as terpenes or phenols). While these are 100% natural, they are also highly effective.
-
A comparison: A lemon in tea is harmless. However, the pure, concentrated oil from 500 lemon peels can irritate skin and eyes if it comes into direct contact.
The law does not distinguish between "synthetically produced" and "extracted from the plant." As soon as a substance has a certain potency, it must be declared according to the European CLP Regulation (Classification, Labelling and Packaging).
2. Why we must print these symbols
As a responsible company, we strictly adhere to legal requirements. Labeling is mandatory for us as soon as we sell essential oils as a mixture.
-
Safety in case of accidents: The symbols do not warn against proper application to the hoof, but against accidents. For example: "What happens if a child drinks the whole bottle?" or "What if the oil splashes into the eyes over a large area during mixing?"
-
Environmental protection: Essential oils are harmful to water in high concentrations. The "dead fish" simply means: "Please do not pour the contents of the bottle unfiltered down the drain or into the stream."
-
Legal certainty: A reputable provider can be recognized by the fact that they take their labeling obligations seriously. Products without these symbols are often not correctly registered or underestimate the effectiveness of natural substances.
3. No Fear of the Effect on the Horse
The warnings always refer to the concentrate in the bottle, not to the positive effect it has on the hoof.
If you use our mixture as recommended, you are utilizing exactly the healing power we desire for your horse: antibacterial, nourishing, and regenerating. The hazard symbols are merely the "safety belt" for handling this powerful natural product.
Did you know? Even many foods would have to bear these symbols if sold as pure extract. A highly concentrated extract of baking flavor or hot chilies would require similar warnings!
4. Transparency Creates Trust
We stand by our 100% natural ingredients. The fact that we label the bottles as required by law is our promise to you:
-
We hide nothing.
-
We work professionally.
-
We protect you and your environment through education.
So you can continue to use our mixtures with a clear conscience. The symbols merely say: "This contains a lot of power – handle it with respect!"
